Murderer Redux

Our electronic environment Murderer Redux is a freely associative chain of constructive, concrete-poetic video and animation loops on Oskar Kokoschka’s Murderer, Hope of Women and optically and acoustically filling the exhibition space. Our reworking of the piece has been adapted for the spatial situation of the exhibition Body, Psyche, and Taboo at mumok, Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien.

The political title does not change the world

They are represented in all major publications of recent years, they always have attended and still attend international exhibitions (from video, movies all the way to furniture and design), their „media synthetic programmes“ can be seen from Cologne, Hamburg, Amsterdam to Paris and New York.  GRAF+ZYX are avant-garde in Austria – misunderstood and highly acclaimed – major proponents of an artistic video scene.

»Furniture for classical extremists« are objects of the counter design, composed and built like sculptures, whose aesthetic is exclusively defined by construction and not decoration,  and whose virtually unadorned stand-alone presentation in space communicates a sensation of timelessness.

GRAF+ZYX : Museum of Private Arts

Already in the late 1970s GRAF+ZYX committed themselves to the „aestheticisation of everyday life“ in all fields of a cross-culture. Their works with video, computer, laser, web design and programming, photography, graphic design, video sculpture, and music are visually influenced by Pop Art, Constructivism, Futurism, Dadaism and contemporary design, and musically rooted in Beat and Electronic Rock of the 60s and 70s, Free Jazz and classical modern music, whereas the lyrics in English – always composed and interpreted by GRAF+ZYX themselves – resemble obscure, existentialist dialogues. When required, voice modulation transforms the lyrics into a linguistically indefinable echoism.

The automaton: artist of the year

After becoming U.S. champion with his club »Cosmos New York«, the automaton turned his back on the metropolis in order to leave his prescribed artist-gestalt-discipline and flow into the far more comfortable discipline of an automatic buffet serving the culinarily spoiled Viennese art world as a servo and satisfying their desire for exotic entertainment.
